GAD affects 6.8 million adults, or 3.1% of the U.S. population, yet only 43.2% are receiving treatment. Women are twice as likely to be affected as men. GAD often co-occurs with major depression.
It may affect as many as 60 million people worldwide. More than half of all patients begin seeing symptoms between the ages of 15 and 25, but it can begin at any age.
13 percent of women over the age of 50 have symptoms of an eating disorder. The rate of children under 12 being admitted to a hospital for eating disorders rose 119 percent in less than a decade.
